M52TU28 engine, 5 speed manual box, LSD, Megasuirt’s ECU, Throttle body’s, E46 Steering Rack, Rear disc conversion, Fix a bit of rust. (scuttle), Re-spray.
I am taking my time, I don’t want to break anything. I am new the BMW scene;
I have removed the air con as I won’t be using it. There is some amount of sensors on the engine, seams like there is two of everything.
I was glad to see the exhaust manifold had not got the cat’s attached, I will be able to use the manifolds;
This will be a slow project as I am in the middle of tidying and respray of a mk1 scirocco.
Got the engine out today, it’s a heavy beast, using the engine lift made it easy, I had to make a tool to remove one of the gearbox (auto) bolts, the bottom one has no room for a ratchet to fit, A star spanner would be the ideal tool, since I don’t have any a wee bit of welding on a old 3/8 extension.
I removed the engine in two steps. Dropped out all the bolts of the subframe, prop, gearbox mount, cables, and front suspension, lifted the engine, threw in some wooden blocks, dropped the subframe on the wood, and then lifted the engine out with the subframe attached.
Next I removed the engine mounts and off with the subframe.
E30 gets a look at her new mill;
Small bit of progress, Got throttle body’s of an S54, I will make an adapter to fit them and a linkage to use a regular throttle cable.
Stripped a set of rear control arms for a sand blast and a lick of paint, I will fit some new bearings/bushings while I am at it.
I did a bit of digging on the net and found this guy who has an E46 subframe in an E30, A different approach to finding/fitting M50 oil sump/oil pump/pickup, I like it.
Did a wee bit of measuring for the itb’s, starting at the head, was a bit off at first but effort two fits perfect.
dooh! you can see I was off by a few mm at the double holed end;
