25mm spacers….see how it sits when they are on, might sell them if I’m not happy;
Flywheel is getting lightened, control arms are extended, lock spacers done also, E28 diff sourced hopefully, getting there.
Extended control arms and washers fitted along with 25mm spacers all round, nice bit of caster on the front and sitting good bit wider than it was, also fitted the steering rack €2 spacers, good lock now;
Put in the polycarb rear window, need to finish the driver and passenger windows this week;
Got these fake mirrors for nothing and sprayed them silver, they’ll do rightly;
Bit of progress today, old engine removed and bits transferred to new engine.
Fitted the M20 flywheel, clutch and starter and gearbox onto the new engine.
All ready to go back in monday and fit the M50 manifold and BBTB.
Also got a 4.1 diff and exhausts came friday.
Also got polycarbonate finished, turned out OK, could be better
Few pics from today……. cant wait to get back driving this again;
Got the car down home again at the weekend, seems to be going great now, no overheating and no pressure building in coolant pipes so engine seems to be solid. Gave it a good warming sunday and all went well.
So work that was done since last update, new engine, m50 manifold, M20 lightened flywheel and clutch, driftworks aluminium radiator, 2:1 steering quickener & twin cherry bomb exhausts fitted to straight through exhaust.
Finally got all bits of the spare shell and left it rest in a quiet corner in case I ever need it again, no point scrapping a perfect shell;
Trying to get it out of the workshop…
Got bit done at the weekend.
Removed my spare e36 medium case diff from the rear subframe of the other car I stripped and went about swapping the internals from the E28 4.1 diff.
I’ll admit I hadn’t much of a clue what needed to be done so went up to the local garage who had also helped me out with doing most of the work on the engine and manifold swap, so big thanks to them for all the advise in the last few weeks! (i’ll have to put them down as sponsors!)
So with a bit of advise from the lads I got it done, wasn’t as bad I thought it would be as everything is pretty much interchangable.
You can see the difference in the pinions above, 2.93 on top and 4.1 on bottom.
I’ll get it welded and fitted this week and it’ll be interested to see what difference it makes.
