Restoration of a 1989 BMW E30 320i SE coupe.
I’ve owned her since 2000,(originally imported from the uk by Alan Dorgan Cars in 1993) After 12yrs of good service I decided to treat her to a complete rebuild. I stripped the shell in my valeting workshop and sent it off for a complete professional de-rust, (the usual suspects) and respray, (the original diamond black) Now that it’s back, I’m currently rebuilding and below is a record of the rebuild.
Here’s a few shots of some typical rust areas on the e30.
Here’s a few more.
It was rusty in the usual places typical of a uUK shell. The inner arches were perforated through the sills, but the rust was all cut out and new steel welded in. It never had any frontal crash damage which is why I thought it was worth keeping.
Car is now back from the body shop all fixed up with fresh paintwork. Have to rebuild it now, changing the struts, rear trailing arms etc, and converting to a manual box.
Here’s a few pics of the rebuild including the rear spoiler, parcel shelf roller blind, and a most unusual boot-lid liner.I’ve also replaced the head lining with a better one.
